Step 1 Warming up
Good morning, class! My name is zhangjing. I’m from No.6 Middle School. Nice to meet you! Now please answer my questions:
1) What were you doing at 7:00 yesterday evening? Were you watching TV/ doing your homework?
(Yesterday evening, I was watching TV. I was reading a story. )
2) What were you doing last night? Were you reading an English book?
Step 2 Presentation
1.Let’s learn Unit3 Language in use. Look at the pictures, answer and ask. Then summarize Past continuous(归纳总结过去进行时)
2. Look at the pictures, and tell me what you were doing.
T: What were you doing during the day last Sunday?
S1: I was waiting for a train at that time.
T: What were you doing at about seven o’clock last night?
S2: I was having birthday party at that time.
Get students to make dialogue like that in pairs. To check which group makes the best.
3. To do Exercise.
Activity1:There are two verbs in each sentence. Read them and underline the correct form of the verb.
1) Last night, I saw/was seeing my friend John. It was his birthday and he was having a party.
2 )At five o'clock, my sister and I watched/were watching TV. There was a very good programme on.
3) Suddenly, all the lights in my house were going off/went off. There was a big storm outside.
4) I wasn't knowing/didn't know Mary until she started going to my school.
5) What did you do/ were you doing at ten o’clock last night?
Activity2:Read and choose the correct answers.(见课本)
Step 3 Practice
1.Work in groups.Play a chain game.
Ask students to play the game in activity 4 in groups. See which group can do the best.
2. Look and play. Play a finding thief game.
T: Look at the pictures. There was a robbery at 9 o’clock last night, and the police are looking for the thief. Now work in groups of six. One member of your group is a policeman; ask and say what you were doing at 9 o’clock. If you cannot remember or don’t know what you were doing, you will be treated as a suspect.
Sample dialogue:
P: Excuse me, may I ask you some questions? You know, there was a robbery last night. What were you doing at eight last night, A?
A: I was having dinner then.
P: What were you doing at nine last night, B?
B: I was watching TV .
P: What about you,C?
C: I was writing a letter.
P: What were you doing, D?
D: I was sleeping at home.
P: Well, thank you very much. See you!
Then ask students to write what they said.
Step 4 Homework
Ask students to:
1. Finish the rest activities in the workbook.
2. Read more about Alice’s adventure in wonderland.
