Most subway accidents result from slips, trips, and falls on stairways when someone is in a rush. The best safety advice we can give you is: slow down when you are on the stairs, and hold the handrail(扶手).
Some trains are shorter (that means they have fewer cars) when it’s the not rush hour because there are fewer passengers using the subway. Some short trains operate without a conductor. On those trains, the train operator opens and closes the doors, makes station announcements and helps customers, if needed. At most stations, there are signs that read: During Off-Hours, Trains Stop Here. If you stand near the center of the platform near the sign, you won’t have to rush when the train arrives.
While you’re waiting, please stand behind the yellow protective strip, away from the platform edge. No matter what situation arises, keep off the tracks. Tracks contain 600 volts of live electricity. If you drop something on the tracks, go to the station announcer room and tell the agent.
Boarding between subway cars may seem like a time-saver, but it is highly dangerous. It’s also dangerous to try to keep subway doors from closing when you are entering or exiting the train. They are not like elevator doors and will not reopen automatically. In addition, make sure that pocketbooks, clothing, packages, umbrellas and other personal items are clear of the closing doors. When you’re inside a moving train, never run between cars or lean against doors. When you are standing, always hold on.

D. You can have a rest leaning against the door when the train stops.

Chinese mainland announced the names of two giant pandas selected for Taiwan compatriots(同胞). The two are Number 16, female and Number 19, male.
The final coupling was chosen out of 23 pandas. The female panda, born in August of 2004, is good at climbing and balancing. The one-year-old beauty weights 35 kilograms.
The male selection was narrowed down to numbers 19, 21 and 22.
The eleven selected giant pandas went through a period of “trial marriages” before the most matching couple was picked up to test whether they could fit for each other.
The Chinese mainland offered Taiwan a pair of pandas as one of its goodwill gestures to compatriots in the island province at the end of a historic trip made by Lien Chan, chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT) in Taiwan, in early May, 2005.
The process of giant panda selection started in early August, 2005 and the panda selection expert group decided that the panda couple would be formed from those giant pandas living in the Wolong center, the largest panda protection zone in China.
The Taiwan people have enthusiastically received the Chinese mainland’s offer of a pair of pandas to the island’s zoos.
The giant panda is one of the world’s most endangered species and is found only in China. It is estimated that 1,590 giant pandas live wild in China and those in captivity totaled 183 in the Chinese mainland by the end of 2005.

Congestion charging is gradually becoming a familiar part of Britain’s road systems. So toll roads are becoming more and more. Urban charging plans are in place in Durham and London, and the M6 Toll road is now in operation. In 2005, the government announced plans for nationwide road charging. A experimental plan could be operating within five years with a nationwide plan being offically carried out within ten years.
Reports from the agency have found that there is some support among a minority (少数) of British motorists for charging plans. They say this plan shows some practical benefits to drivers, for example, clearer roads, better detection of tax escape, or a reduction in fuel duty. However, when questioned on the best way to pay any charge, the majority of drivers prefered extra taxation on fuel rather than a satellite tracking(卫星跟踪) plan.
The government says that action must be taken to reduce congestion, and that drivers should consider their journeys carefully. Public transport plays a key role in helping motorists choose an alternative to the car. It is believed that convenient public transport is the best choice before drivers bear any further great costs.
Of course, many motorists disagree with the charging plans, because it means that you need to pay to use a road or to enter a city centre. These pages will guide you around the details of each currently operational scheme in the UK. Click on the menu at the top of the page for the relevant scheme.
62. According to the passage, we can guess a toll road is _________.
A. a road travelers have to pay to use
B. a road on which drivers can drive very fast
C. a road which is constructed by the government
D. a road which is protected by the native inhabitants
63. According to the government, the whole UK may carry out the plans _________.
