According to the dictionary definition of “create”, ordinary people are creative every day. To create means “to bring into being, to cause to exist “---something each of us does daily.
We are creative whenever we look at or think about something in a new way. First this involves an awareness of our surroundings. It means using all of our sense to become aware of our world. This may be as simple as being aware of color and texture, as well as taste, when we plan a meal. Above all, it is the ability to notice things that others might miss.
A second part of creativity is an ability to see relationships among things. If we believe the expression, “There is nothing new under the sun,” the creativity is remaking or recombining the old in new ways. For example, we might do this by finding a more effective way to study or a better way to arrange our furniture, or we might make a new combination of camera lenses and filters to create an unusual photograph.
A third part of creativity is the courage and drive to make use of our new ideas, to apply them to achieve some new results. To think up a new concept is one thing; to put the idea to work is another.
These three parts of creativity arte involved in all the great works of genius, but they are also involved in many of our day-to day activities.

64. What does the author think about the relationship between anew thought and its being put into practice?

A single night of taking the drug Ecstasy(摇头丸) can cause serious brain damage and speed up the start of Parkinson`s disease, scientists say. just two to three Ecstasy tablets ---a quantity that thousands of clubbers take during parties ---can permanently destroy brain cells that affect movement and reasoning, according to American research that links the drug to Parkinson`s for the first time.
A study by a team at johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, involving squirrel monkeys and baboons(猩猩) found that both species suffered permanent damage to key cells called dopamine neurons, which are lost in Parkinson`s, after receiving three low doses of Ecstasy at three-hour periods.
The study is particularly significant because baboons are one of the best animal models for the human brain. George Ricaurte, who led the research, said that widespread abuse of the drug may already be claiming victims of such neurological (神经性的) damage. “The most troubling result is that young adults using Ecstasy may be increasing their risk for developing Parkinsonism as they get older.”
Alan Leshner, a former director of the US National Institute on Drug Abuse, said, “This study emphasizes the multi-aspect damage that Ecstasy can do to users. We`ve long known that repeated use damages brain cells. This study shows that even very occasional use can have long-lasting effects on many different brain systems. It sends an important message to young people: don`t experiment with your own brain.”
Janet Betts, the Essex mother whose daughter Leah died after a single Ecstasy tablet in 1995, said, “This comes as non surprise. People can`t see the effects at first, and they`re in permanent denial(否认), saying it`s not going to happen to them. But we`ll see the symptoms later, just as we have with smoking.”
66. The article is intended to ____.
A. explain the effects of the drug Ecstasy on many different brain systems
B. warn youngsters of the risk of taking the drug Ecstasy
C. convince people of the harm of abusing the drug Ecstasy
D. tell us the links between the drug Ecstasy and Parkinson`s disease

A. won`t cause serious brain damage
B. can permanently destroy one`s brain cells
C. can`t show any effect in an experiment
D. may bring on Parkinson`s at once
69. Why are squirrel monkeys and baboons involved in the experiments?
A. Because their brains are similar to human beings.
B. Because these animals usually take drugs.
C. Because these animals will soon get well after the experiment.
D. Because there is a model in the animals` brains.

What are the chances that we will come across some aliens, as we explore the galaxy(银河系)? If the argument about the time for the appearance of life on Earth is correct, there ought to e many other stars, on whose planets there must be life some of these stellar systems could have formed 5 billion years before the Earth. So why are there some life forms in the galaxy? Why hasn`t the Earth been visited, and even colonized(殖民)? I don`t believe that there are aliens in UFOs. I think any visits by aliens would be much more obvious, and probably also, much more unpleasant.
What is the explanation of why we have not been visited?
One possibility is that the argument, about the appearance of life on Earth, is wrong. Maybe the probability of life spontaneously appearing is so low that Earth is the only planet in the galaxy, or in the observable universe, in which it happened.
Another possibility is that there was a reasonable probability of forming self-reproducing systems like cells, but that most of these forms of life did not develop intelligence.
A third possibility is that there is a reasonable probability for life to form, and to develop into intelligent beings, in the external transmission phase(外部转换阶段). But at that point, the system becomes unable, and the intelligence life destroys itself. This would be a very pessimistic(悲观的) conclusion. I very much hope it isn`t true.
I prefer a fourth possibility: there are other forms of intelligent life out there, but we have been overlooked. There used to be a project called SETI, the search for extra-terrestrial(宇宙的) intelligence. It involved scanning the radio frequencies, to see if we could pick up signals from alien civilizations. I thought this project was worth supporting, though it was cancelled due to a lack of funds. But we should have been careful of answering back, until we have developed a bit further. meeting a more advanced civilization, at our present stage, might be a bit like the original inhabitants of America meeting Columbus. I don`t think they had good luck.
71. The underlined word “spontaneously” here means ___.
A. without outside force B. with outside force
C. at a high speed D. at a low speed
72. Which of the following statements would the writer agree to?
A. it is impossible that we come across some aliens.
B. Life only exists on Earth.
C. It is likely that we`ll come across some aliens.
D. Aliens will never visit Earth.
73. Which of the following in Not among the four possibilities of why we haven`t been visited? A. Forms of life on the other planets don`t develop into intelligent beings.
B. Earth is the only planet that contains life in the observable universe.
C. Life on the other planets destroys itself.
D. Aliens are too far away from us.
74. In the author`s eyes, the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence ____.
A. is unnecessary B. should be supported
C. is a waste of money D. was not done carefully
75. According to the last paragraph, the author considers that ___.
A. a more advanced civilization will destroy us if aliens visit us at present
B. the original inhabitants of America were advanced due to Columbus` visit
C. being visited by a more advanced civilization will do us good
D. we could conquer them even if aliens visited us presently
You seem to be a Wet Blanket (a person who doesn`t enjoy himself /herself and thus prevents others from enjoying themselves) when it comes to nature and your kid. You are most likely a caring, protective parent who wants to keep your child safe and sound. You may be so determined to protect your kid from dirt, sunburn, frostbite, or scratches that you try to avoid the outdoors. Or you may just find muddy clothes and sandy toes require too much extra work. Perhaps you hate to get dirty yourself. The natural world may just make you nervous and you might worry those bugs and bats will suck you dry. It may be that you just never got the chance to be outdoors when you were a kid and now know nothing about what to do with your kid.
While it is every care-giver`s job to protect their kid, your worries may cause your child to grow up as a Wet Blanket as well. If you prefer the indoors yourself, you may be keeping your kid from outdoor experiences without even realizing it. Your attitudes about nature has a huge influence on how comfortable your kid will feel outside. You may need to go against your own nature and “open the door” to get your kid outside!
You may already see the value in helping kids spend time outside in nature and know that playing in natural settings helps children grow up mentally. Perhaps you already introduce your child to nature through books, museums, and zoos. Maybe you just need some ideas of what to do with kids outside. Try some simple nature activities with your kid or sign-up for professionally-led nature programs to develop your skills. While it may be a challenge for you to overcome your own nervousness about nature, you can raise a child who ____.
One of the easiest was you can get your kid outside is to become a Door Opener. Even if you don`t enjoy playing in the mud you can take breath and let them loose! Undirected time to explore nature is an important part of raising a caring kid. This might be free time in the backyard, allowing him to wander ahead on a walk or simply providing her with materials for a project. Putting aside your own nervousness and providing “in-the-wings” support will enrich your child`s journey as a nature lover! Belt out a song, build a snowman, watch the clouds, or plant a seed with your child. Help your child connect his creative side with nature.

One possible version:
Health Care
From the picture, we can see tat the old man was suffering from heart trouble. He had to go to hospital for medical care. When he saw the medical bill from the hospital, which was far beyond what he could afford, he was so shocked that he couldn`t stand on his feet. It`s really another heart attack form him.
At present, any people can`t afford heavy medical fees. Because of this, they may get into deep debt in order to get proper medical care or have to bear the pain of diseases. Worse still, some have to wait helplessly for the last day of their life. If this situation continues, it will surely cause the instability of our society and eventually interfere with the development of our country.
Therefore, we strongly call for the medical expenses to be reduced. The government should build up a favorable, medical system so that every person can afford their medical care and can enjoy their life as long as possible.

M: Sure, Internet shopping is great because it`s easier to compare prices, so you can save money. The cell phone I want costs $1200 in the stores, but I found it in the Internet for only $900.
W: That`s a good deal—you save $ 900.
M: Yeah, and it`s a lot easier than shopping in the stores. You don`t have to leave your house. You just send in your credit card information and they send it to your home.
W: That`s true—but I`d rather pay cash than use my credit card. And I don`t like sending my credit card information over the Internet.

W: Please sit down. Let`s see, you`re Mr. Brown.
M: That`s right.
W: Well, let`s get going. When will you graduate?
M: This June.
W: Have you ever done any work in this field, or something similar?
M: No, nothing. We only did some practice work in class.
W: You seem to be doing well in college. What kind of pay are you hoping to get?
M: From what I`ve read, it seems that the starting salary should be in the region of 100,000yuan a year.
W: Here we would start at 89,500 yuan for the first year—a kind of training period. Then you would go to 120,000yuan. After that, your rise depends on how you have worked.
M: That sounds fair enough. What about other things, like vacations? W: Those are all explained in this document. You can take it with you and look at it at home. M: Oh, thanks. Well, do you think I have a chance of getting the job? W: Well, I`m talking to three people today and four tomorrow, and we`ll only be hiring two. M: I sure hope that I can work here, but I guess I`ll just have to go home and wait.
W: Good luck and thanks for coming today.

M: Liberty Park, good morning. How can I help you? W: I would like to know more about art festival next week. What can I do at the festival?
M: Oh, you can do lots of things! You can listen to music, look at paintings by local and international painters, join the picnic in the park or watch play.
W: Wow! What paintings can I see at the festival?
M: There our best local painters are showing their paintings. Two of them are very traditional and like to paint landscapes. The third local painter is a modern artist and her paintings show the world in a different way, the way she sees it. You can also see new and old paintings from France, Japan, Brazil and Norway.
W: When is the art exhibition?
M: Oh, there arte two, actually. The local painters will show their paintings at 11a.m. on Saturday and the international exhibition starts at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Would you like to know where it is?
W: Yes, please.
M: The local exhibition is in Building 4 and the international exhibition is in Building 8.

Music is not air or water. But for many Senior High School students, music is an important and enjoyable part of life. This conclusion can be made following 21st Century Tenns` summer survey on readers` attitudes to music.
Nearly 10,000 readers responded to the survey in our summer special issue.
Over half,52 percent, said that they listen to music whenever they are free. Just 0.5 percent of students said they never listen to music. Most listen to English and Chinese songs in equal amounts.
But, the survey showed that students have very different tastes and enjoy a wide variety of styles. “Our generation is diverse, and that`s reflected in our tastes,” said Liu Yujia, a senior 3 from High School attached to Xi`an Jiaotong University. Liu is a pop fan but also likes R&B of Jay Chow, a big favourite among students in the survey.
About 32 percent of students listen to pop music. Behind pop came R&B, 28 percent; Country, 14 percent; Rock, 9 percent; and others.
