Learning experiences happen to us throughout our lives. Not long ago, I had one that I would like to 21 .
I was going to Marblehead with my sailboat team. The team was racing down the highway at 85 mph 22 we realized we were 23 . Luckily, we saw a rest area ahead. I had a brand new $20 bill. I was so 24 because I had never had that kind of cash before. But spending it on 25 seemed like throwing it away. We all rushed into the pizza line. 26 I got a pizza and a drink, and walked to my table. About halfway through the meal, I 27 I had not actually handed any money to the cashier. I had just 28 out, and nobody had noticed. I felt terrible.
My conscience(良心)opened its mouth and swallowed me in one big bite. I couldn’t 29 over it. I just couldn’t go back to the cashier and 30 for my stolen pizza. I was so upset that I 31 to give myself the pleasure of an ice cream in 32 that someone would say, “Hey, Jeff, why don’t you use the change 33 the pizza instead of that nice, new $20 bill?” I was not so 34 of my cash now.
For the next two years, whenever I was 35 of the “pizza incident”, I would say to myself, “Don’t think about it...”
I have learned two things from this 36 . Maybe I was a fool for 37 in to my conscience, and being too stupid to appreciate a 38 pizza. But the real lesson is that even if you get away from what you have done, your conscience will 39 up with you.
This reflects the saying, “A coward (懦夫) dies a thousand deaths; a hero dies one.” I was a coward and have felt terrible about that incident at least a thousand times. If I had been a “ 40 ” and gone back to pay for the pizza, I would have felt a little uncomfortable about it only once, or maybe twice.

Imagine that you are on a jury and you hear the testimony(证词)of an eyewitness who says that the accused person is guilty. You would probably vote to convict the accused, don’t you think? Well, more often than not, you’d be wrong.
A few years ago, an experiment was done on an evening news show on WNBC in New York. Viewers were shown a film of what seemed to be a mugging. In this simulation, a man snatched a woman’s purse. He then knocked her down and ran face forward at the camera so that the viewers got a good look at him. Viewers were then shown a lineup of six men. They were asked to decide if the mugger was in the lineup and, if so, to tell which one he was. In effect, then, they had seven choices. The suspect was either one of the six or he wasn’t even in the lineup.
Of the 2,145 people who called up to respond, 1,843 were wrong. That means about one in seven was right. This is what you’d expect from random choice.
Eyewitness accounts can be the most convincing evidence presented to a jury. Yet we are finding out that such accounts can be faulty. Something is just wrong. Why is this so? Recent findings have removed doubts on whether memory can last long. We also know that it can be changed by things such as leading questions. Mistaken eyewitness accounts are common. They are also the major cause of innocent persons being convicted in the United States.
45.The underlined words “to convict the accused” probably means _____________.
A.to show that the accused is wrong
B.to express that the accused person is true
C.to declare that the accused person is guilty

A. evidence B. memory C.eyewitness D.accounts
48.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Evidence should be more convincing.
B.Eyewitness accounts can be wrong.
C.Not all judges are good at their jobs.
D.Major causes of innocent persons being convicted.

Shyness is the cause of much unhappiness for a great many people. Shy people are anxious and self – conscious; that is, they are over concerned with their own appearance and actions.
Worrisome thoughts are constantly occurring in their minds; what kind of impression am I making? Do they like me? Do I sound stupid? Am I wearing unattractive clothes?
It is obvious that such comfortable feelings must affect people unfavorably. A person’s self – concept is reflected in the way he or she behaves and the way a person behaves affects other people’s reactions. In general, the way people think about themselves has a deep effect on all areas of their lives. Shy people, have low self – esteem (自尊), are likely to be passive and easily influenced by others. They need reassurance that they are doing “the right thing”. Shy people are very sensitive to criticism. It makes them feel inferior (自卑). They also find it difficult to be pleased by praises because they believe they are unworthy of praise. A shy person may respond to a praise with a statement like this one: “You’re just saying that to make me feel good, I know it’s not true.” It is clear that, while self – awareness is a healthy quality, overdoing it harmful. Can shyness be completely got rid of, or at least reduced? Fortunately, people can overcome shyness with determination. It is important for people to accept their weaknesses as well as their strengths, for example, not fair for them to label themselves inferior because they have to be realistic. Living on the impossible leads to absence of inferiority. Each one of us has his or her own characteristics. We are interested in our own personal ways. The better we understand ourselves, the easier it becomes to live up to our chances for a rich and fulfilling life.

C.They are very sensitive to it D.They feel they are worthy of it
52.We can learn from the passage that shyness can .
A.help us to live up to our full development
B.enable us to understand ourselves better
C.block our chances for a successful life
D.have nothing to do with lack of self–esteem
D
Maybe it is true that we do not know what we have got until we lose it, but it is also true that we do not know what we have been missing until it arrives.
It takes an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone. Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they will love you back. Do not expect love in return; but if it does not, be content it has grown in yours. Do not rely on one’s appearance; it can trick you. Do not rely on wealth; even that fades away. Rely on someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright.
There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them. Dream what you want to dream, go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.
The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past. You cannot go on well in life until you let your past failures and heartaches go off. May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy. The happiest of people do not necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. Happiness waits for those who cry, those appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives. Always put yourself in others’ shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person, too.
When you were born , you were crying and everyone around you was smiling . Live your life so that when you die , you are the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying .
53.In this passage, the writer wants to tell us .
A.what to do in our life B.where to go with other persons
C.how to treat our life D.how to get on well with other persons

B.We often don’t know what we have lost until it happens someday.

D.If it takes you a short time to love someone, you will easily forget the person.
55.If you put yourself in another person’s position, .
A.you shouldn’t do what will hurt other people
B.you should put on other people’s shoes
C.you should believe in other people
D.you should depend on your imagination

Do you love holidays, but hate the increase in weight that follows? You are not alone. Holidays are times for splendid meals and celebrating, especially with the traditional cultural foods.
With proper planning, though, it is possible to maintain normal weight during the holidays. The idea is to enjoy the holidays and think in terms of moderation (节制). Whether it is celebrating at the office party or sitting down for the traditional family dinner, approach eating as a time for tasting or sampling a variety of foods. Here are some tips to carry you through the round of celebrations and your social calendar without feeling having done wrong.
Set realistic goals. Unless you have special dietary needs there are no forbidden foods. Don't turn down the foods you enjoy, but be sensible.
Before you leave home, have a small, low - fat meal or snake. This can help you to avoid eating or drinking much. Use as mall, luncheon-size plate and avoid the large ones that may encourage you to “load up”. You should be most comfortable eating an amount of food about the size of your fist. Once you have had your “tasting” serving, move away from the dining room. Doing so will make it easy to stop yourself eating constantly at the sight of food.
Eat slowly and fill up beforehand with clear soup and raw fruit or vegetables and fruit in a yogurt dressing rather that cream and cheese sauces. You can also frink a large glass of water before you eat to help you feel full.
If you have a sweet tooth, try mints, hard candies, and fruits. These don't have the fat content of creamy desserts and chocolate.
Avoid high - fat foods. Dishes that look oily or creamy may have a generous amount of fat. Choose lean meats. Fill your plate with salad and green vegetables.
Don’t let exercise take a break during the holidays. A 20-minute walk after sa meal can help burn off extra calories.
57.The underlined sentence “You are not alone.” here means that ________.
A.you are firmly supported by a lot of people
B.many people are with you and you'll never be alone
C.the situation mentioned above is common among many people
D.many people enjoy holidays and seldom hate putting on weight
58.What does the writer actually tell you when he says “Don't turn down the foods you enjoy, but be sensible”?

B.You must pour down the foods you enjoy, for it is reasonable.
C.You shouldn't refuse anything you like and eat it as much as possible.
D.You ought to accept what you enjoy and refuse what you don't.
59.Which of the following may be a great favourite of a person who has a sweet tooth?
