The authorities (当局) Wednesday set standards for melamine (三聚氰胺) levels in milk and related food products to ease fears following a contaminated milk powder incident.
The limits were set at 1 mg per kg for infant formula (婴儿配方奶粉),and 2.5 mg per kg for other dairy products including liquid milk, according to a.joint statement issued by five government agencies
including the Ministry of Health.
Melamine can lead to some problems like kidney (肾) stones. The chemical has been blamed for the deaths of at least four babies, and more than 54,000 children have fallen ill after being fed such kind of milk formula.
Wang Xuening,an official with the health ministry, told a press conference。Wednesday that it is almost impossible to keep the melamine level at zero as small amounts of the chemical can leak from packaging into milk and other food products. But he warned that“purposely adding is clearly forbidden”.
“Those who add melamine to food products will bear the legal responsibility,”he said.
Chen Junshi,a researcher at Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said,“The limits will help inspectors.judge whether melamine was purposely added.”
“If the amount is more than 1 mg per kg,WC have reason to believe it was intentionally added.”
Some dairy suppliers have been found to add melamine to milk to make it appear protein-rich in tests.
Health authorities said the new limits are in line with international standards, and recognized by the World Health Organization and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said last week that 2.5 mg of melamine per kg would not cause health problems but added that any infant formula sold to the US must be free of melamine.
Standards in Hong Kong and New Zealand also set a safe melamine limit in food products of 2.5 mg per kg,though Hong Kong has lowered the level for children under 3 and pregnant or lactating (producing milk) women to 1 mg per kg.

American women experience a great variety of lifestyle.A typical American woman may be single. She may also be divorced or married. She may be a homemaker,a doctor,or a factory worker. It is very difficult to generalize(概括) about American women. However, one thing that many American women have in common is their attitudes about themselves and their roles in American life.
Historically,American women have always been very independent. The first settlers to come to New England were ten young couples that had left behind their extended (big)families. The women were alone in a new.undeveloped country with their husbands. This has two important effects.First of all, this was the uncivilized environment that demanded every person should share in developing it and in survival.Women worked with their husbands and children to make themselves accepted in this new land.Second, because they were in a Flew land without the established(已确立的)influence of older members of society, women felt free to step into nontraditional roles.
This role of women was strengthened in later years as Americans moved west again, leaving families behind and meeting a new environment.Even later.in the east,as new settlers arrived, women often found jobs more easily than men.Women became the supporters of the family.
Within the established lifestyle of the industrialized twentieth century.the strong role of women was not attractive as in the early days Of the country. Some women stepped into the men’s jobs as factory and business workers. After the war, some women stayed in these positions, and others left their jobs with a Hew sense of ability.

Dear fellow students.
There is a serious phenomenon in our school. We find many students will crowd in the school store to buy snacks after each class. Some students even eat snacks in class.
Eating snacks is a bad habit and is also a waste of money. In addition, most snacks are unhealthy fond, for they contain too much fat and sugar. Eating snacks improperly may lead to fatness and illness. What is worse, some students throw the wrappers everywhere, which pollutes our campus.
Dear fellow students,we shouldn’t act like kids any more. We high school students should develop god habits. Remember that three regular meals a day as well as a balanced diet are essential for us. Let’s form good eating habits and say no to snacks!
