四、语法讲解
情态动词can, may的用法。
1. can 表示“能够”也可以表示 “请求，允许”。其否定式为can’t,
表示“不大可能活不能够”还可以表示 “推测”， 意为 “不能”。
例如：
A: Can you be here at six o’clock tomorrow morning?
B: Sorry, I can’t be here so early.
A: 明天早六点你能到这里吗？
B: 对不起， 那么早， 我来不了。
又如：
A: Can I go shopping with you?
B: No, you can’t. You have to do your homework at home.
A: 我可以和你一起去购物吗?
B: 不可以. 你的在家里做作业。
2. may
(1) may 表示 “允许”和 “可能”。 回答may提出的问题，肯定式
用may，否定式用mustn’t或can’t， 表示“不可以”。
(2) may表示可能性，意为“可能、也许”， 通常用在肯定句中
例如：
He may be in the classroom.
他可能在教室里。
He can’t get to school on time. He is ill.
他不可能准时到校。他生病了。
A: May I play the computer games now?
B: No, you mustn’t. You have to finish your work first.
A: 我现在可以玩电脑游戏了吗？
B: 不，不准玩。你必须先完成你的作业。
注意：情态动词本身有词义，但是不能单独使用，只能与动词原形一起构成谓语动词。
例如：
May I come in?
我可以进来吗？
Can you play basketball?
