We tend to think that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated(受挫) that the kids aren’t old enough and we’ll be more content when they are. After that we’re frustrated that we have 45 to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We always tell ourselves that our 46 will be complete when we have a large house, get an expensive car, and are able to go on a nice vacation. The 47 is that there’s no better time than right now. If not now, when? Our life will always be filled with 48 . It’s best to admit this to ourselves and decide to be happy anyway. One of my favourite 49 comes from Alfred Souza. He said, “For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin. But there was always some 50 in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a 51 to be paid…. At last it dawned(被理解) on me that these things were my real life.” This perspective(观点) has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So, 52 every moment that you have. And remember that time waits for no one. So stop waiting until you finish school, until you start work; until you get married, until you have kids; until you retire, until you are 53 again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy … Happiness is a journey, not 54 . So, work like you don’t need money, love like you’ve never been hurt, and dance like no one’s watching. 45. A. teachers B. neighbours C. parents D. teenagers 46. Doctors always suggest we kick the coffee habit. But as an office worker who is trapped doing 55 five days a week, it’s nearly impossible to give up this vice. Forgetting cappuccinos, lattes, macchiatos and any other milky coffee is one way to 56 fat. Let’s get back to the classic American style or simply the 57 “coffee of the day” at Starbucks. Withdrawing milk and sugar doesn’t take long to become accustomed to, but for those who can’t 58 the bitterness, add some milk but never sugar. In fact, black coffee is a 59 diuretic(利尿剂) and helps accelerate the fat burning process. (B) The soldier was watching an eagle-like bird flying overhead when he heard the distant, muffled(低沉的) roar of planes, then silence. For the past week he had been told to take note of everything that happened on the hill within his range of vision, and to report anything suspicious(可疑的). The hill led to an experimental factory, where new and secret weapons were tested. There was a threat of war and the factory would be invaluable to the enemy. So the approaches to it were watched day in, day out. He shifted his position; he felt that he had been crouching(蹲伏) in the bushes since the beginning of time, but only a couple of hours of this day’s duty had passed. Suddenly he saw something falling from the sky like snow, only it was not snow. He put out his hand and caught bits that were drifting near him. They were thin strips of metal to confuse radar monitoring equipment, so that it would not be possible to detect the landing of enemy craft. Next he heard a long, low, continuous roar from the east and saw something in the sky which looked like umbrellas opening, but which he knew to be parachutes(降落伞) with men hanging from them. He wanted to go at once to give the alarm, but he had to be sure that the parachutists were not his own men out on an exercise. The men were on the ground now. One of them pointed in the direction of the secret factory and they all began marching towards it. He had no more doubts and set off at once down the hill. He crawled slowly, sometimes on his stomach, sometimes on his side, weaving himself a path through the bushes down to the stream. Once there, he decided that he had ample(足够) cover and started to run. He was wrong, for bullets were soon whistling past him. He dropped flat on the ground. Nobody came to search for him, so he counted up to a hundred and then began crawling again. He moved tortuously(曲折) and as silently as he could to his camp at the foot of the hill. 68. A crime-busting partnership aims to drive anti-social behaviour into the ground. Experts from the fields of crime, disorder and drug misuse are joining forces trying to cut the number of criminal acts in Liverpool.
A special ASBC day will see 40 different agencies agreeing on a city-wide plan of action. Delegates aim to join together to get tough on persistent offenders and those responsible for the vast majority of violent crimes in the city. They also intend to prevent people becoming victims of hate crimes, reduce drug related crime and increase the number of drug users out of crime and into treatment. And they have now persuaded most of Liverpool's housing associations to put more cash and resources into the handling of the issue.
Liverpool's group manager for community safety, John Farrell, said: "We made a crime and disorder survey in late 2005, which identified anti-social behaviour as Liverpool people's number one concern. It is only a small amount of people who are committing many of the crimes. Most people out there don't harass(骚扰) their neighbours or break the law. That is why people want us to win back their communities from the yobs. This event brings all the agencies across the city together to help cut the number of incidents of disorder and anti-social behaviour which spoil our communities."
All the attendees will look at areas such as legal and environmental issues and ways of using increased powers in order to develop a 'Grand Anti Social Behaviour Reduction Partnership' .The day runs from 9 am till 2 pm on Thursday 13 April, 2006 and a later signing event will be held at Liverpool Town Hall.
