For the Chinese, it’s Loughborough University. For the French and Spanish students, it’s the North East Wales Institute. Education Guardian revealed(showed)which UK universities are the hot spots for 20 different nationalities of overseas students last month. Data from the Higher Education Statistics(统计)Agency reveals the universities with the largest communities of South Koreans, Greeks, Indians, Italians, Malaysians and other nationalities.
International students often get together at particular universities for reasons that are sometimes surprising. For Greek students, word has gone out that there are high-profile(引人注目)Greek professors at City University’s business school, Cass Panagota Pouri, a master’s student at City who is from Athens, says this has helped make the university a Greek hot spot. Dr Tim Westlake, Manchester University’s director of student recruitment(招生),says the city of Manchester’s brand and its football teams have played a big part in making the university attractive to Chinese students.
Education Guardian also looked at which regions of the UK were the most popular for each of 20 nationalities. London came top with 25 percent of the UK’s 351,470 international students choosing to study there. Next was the southeast with Scotland and Northern Ireland coming last . For some nationalities, being in London is seen as essential. A third of Pakistani students choose to be in the capital, and the figure is 38.5 percent for Italian students ,37.8 percent for Japanese students and 43.2 percent for South Korean students.

It was a bleak (阴冷的), rainy day, and I drove there, tired and unwilling to go anywhere else. But my daughter had insisted that I come see something at the top of the mountain.
Turning down a narrow track, we parked the car and got out. We walked along a path that was thick with old pine needles. Huge black-green overgreens(常青树)towered over. Gradually the peace and silence of the place began to fill my mind. Then we turned a corner- and I stopped and gasped in amazement.
From the top of the mountain, sloping for several acres(英亩)across folds and valleys were rivers of daffodils in radiant bloom (盛开). Plenty of colors-from the palest ivory to the deepest lemon to the most vivid salmon(浅橙色)-blazed like a carpet before us. It looked as though the sun had tipped over and spilled gold down the mountainside.
A riot(抑制不住)of questions filled my mind. Who created such beauty? Why? How?
As we approached the home that stood in the center of the property, we saw a sign: ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS I KNOW YOU ARE ASKING. The second was: ONE WOMAN-TWO HANDS, TOW FEET AND VERY LITTLE BRAIN. The second was: ONE AT A TIME. The third: STARTED IN 1958.
That is the Daffodil Principle. For me that experience was life-changing. I thought of this woman whom I had never met, who, more than forty years before, had begun—one at a time—to bring beauty and joy to an unknown mountain top. Still, just planting one bulb(球茎)at a time, year after year, had changed the world. This unknown woman had forever changed the world in which she lived.
The principle her daffodil taught in learning to move toward our goals and desires one step at a time—often just one baby-step at time—and learning to use the accumulation(积累)of time. Thus we can change the world. (From page 42 EST Learning June, 2008)

A person, like a product, needs packaging. But going too far is absolutely unwelcome. A little exaggeration(夸张), however, does no harm when it shows the person’s unique qualities to their advantages. To display personal charm in a casual and natural way, it is important for one to have a clear knowledge of oneself. A master packager knows how to make art to without any trace of making up, so that the person so packaged is no product but a human being, lively and lovely.
A young person, especially a female, charming with beauty and full of life, has all the favor granted by God. Any attempt to make up would be self-defeating. Youth, however, comes and goes in moment of nap. Packaging for the middle-aged is primarily to hide the furrows made by time. If you still enjoy life’s energy enough to retain self-confidence and run after pioneering work, you are unique in your natural qualities, and your charm and grace will remain. Elderly people are beautiful if their river of life has been, through plains, mountains and jungles, running its course as it should. You have really lived your life which now arrives at a satisfied stage of calmness indifferent to fame or wealth. There is no need to resort to hair- dyeing—the snow-capped mountain is itself a beautiful scene of fairyland. Let your looks change from natural ageing process so as to keep in harmony with nature, for harmony itself is beautiful, while the other way round will only end in unpleasantness. To be in the elder’s company is like reading a thick book edition that fascinates one so much as to be unwilling to part with .
As long as one finds where one stands, one knows how to package oneself, just as a product establishes its brand by the right packaging.
(From Reader’s Digest 2007)
72.According to the author, a person may not make a pretty impression on others if he or she .
A.doesn’t make up
B.can’t make his or her nature agree with packaging
C.doesn’t ask for help
D.doesn’t learn how to dress himself or herself at school
73.The writer believes that if the old don’t change their hair colour, they would .
A.look very ugly and old B.be more beautiful than the young
C.still have their own beauty D.become older more quickly
74.According to the passage, a young lady needn’t make up because .
A.she has an advantage over others B.she often feels proud of herself
C.she is always confident D.she would be too charming
75.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.A person should know where he is in order to dress well.
B.People of different ages need proper packaging.
C.A person’s making up can make a good impression on others
D.A young person doesn’t need packaging.

W: Why do you want to read the newspaper? You always watch the news on television.
M: I know. But I won’t be leaving for another hour. I want to read the newspaper to kill time. I want to read the sports page in the newspaper.
W: I’m sorry. I already put it in the garbage. Both Barbara and I read it .You never read the paper but watch TV, so I threw it away.
M: Well. I found the paper. But I can’t find the page I want.
W: Oh ,I’m sorry, Mike. I always wrap the garbage in the sports section.

M: Head waitress! I want to have a word with you.
W: Yes, sir. I’ll be with you in a minute. Is there anything else you’d like to have, sir?
M: Anything else? We’ve been kept waiting here for almost an hour for the meal!
W: I’m terribly sorry about that, sir. There might be something wrong. You see, we’re short of help today. I’ll see to it at once. Would you like to have a drink while waiting?
M: Well, another martini.
W: Yes, sir. One moment. Here yours. I’ll be back in a minute. Here are the dishes you ordered, sir.
M: Thank you.

W: Hi, Henry, what’s new?
M: Where have been? I’ve been trying to get in touch with you for two days.
W: I went to New York on business. What’s up?
M: I’m out of work.
W: How come? Last time I saw you, you told me it was a good job and you would like to take it. That was only one month ago. Why this sudden change?
M: It’s a long story. In a word, I didn’t do a good job of it.
W: What are you going to do now?
M: I’m trying to find a job as soon as possible. Nancy doesn’t know yet. I didn’t tell her. I spent the past three days at the coffee shop next to your office. She thought I went to works as usual.
W: That’s not the way to solve the problem. Did you look in the advertisements column? M: Yes , I did. But I wasn’t able to get any of the jobs that I was interested in.
W: Listen. I’ll see what I can do . OK? You go home and tell Nancy about this problem you have now. She is your wife ,and I’m sure she’ll understand.
M: I just don’t know how to bring it up…Well, all right. She has the right to know anyway.

W: Yeah, I’ve grown up already.
M: How time flies! Congratulations!
W: Thank you.
M: Anyway, have you thought what you’d like for your birthday?
W: Well, I wondered whether I could have driving lessons.
M: But we don’t have a car!
W: I know, but it would be enjoyable when I have my own car.
M: Kate, you’re still in school. I don’t think you need a car .
W: Dad, most of my classmates are having driving lessons.
M: Well, maybe their parents can afford a car, but I can not.
W: Linda said I could use her car for practice.
M: OK , I ’ ll manage to get a second-hand car for you.
W: Thanks, Dad.
