If you feel at present that you don’t have enough friends in your life, one reason may be that you have let yourself become too busy to make time for the relationships you already have. Starting and keeping friendship requires effort and commitment.
Many of us let our lives become so busy with work and other commitments that we don’t get around to scheduling time for pleasure and renewal(叙旧) with the friends, relatives and acquaintances we already have.
Making the effort to call your friends more regularly and to accept more of the invitations you receive from others can improve your social life in a hurry!
Are there any people you could call right now and be assured of a pleasant welcome? Are there people that you could count on to help you in time of difficulty? Can you have close talks with them? Do you have fun when you are together? Are you happy to have them in your life?
If you haven’t seen much of them lately, is it because you have become too busy? Have you grown apart? Was there an argument?
If the main reason you haven’t been getting together with the people you already know is that you have gotten too busy, take a good look at how you spend your time. Compare it with your real values and priorities(优先考虑的事)in life. Is your busy lifestyle really bringing you the quality of life that you want?
If you have become too busy for friends, why has this happened? Are you seeking material toys in your life at the expense of relationships with other human beings? Have you allowed your time to be over committed because you never say “No” to anyone? Do you insist on doing things yourself that could be delegated to others? If so, why? Do you believe that everything depends on you?
Examine whether the way you are now spending your time accurately reflects your deepest values and priorities. Make sure that you schedule enough time for the things that are truly most important to you.
If you really want to keep friends in your lire, make a space in your schedule, and a space in your heart for them.
64.In this passage the author mainly discusses .
A.how to balance friendship and work
B.how to spend our spare time
C.whether we should keep friendship

B.You have someone to have close talks with.
C.You feel depressed with others in life.
D.You have fun when you are with someone.
66.The underlined word “delegated” probably means “ .
A.appointed B.replaced C.declined D.handled

A.you spend too much time seeking material toys in your life
B.you feel it difficult to keep friendship
C.you stick to doing everything all by yourself
D.you never refuse whatever other people ask you to do
D
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to rule soon that milk from cloned animals and meat from their offspring (后代) are safe to eat.
The agricultural industry has observed a self-acting stop on using the products of clones, but it has recently become clear that a few offspring of cloned pigs and cows are already flowing into the food supply. Many in agriculture believe such genetic copies are the next logical step in improving the nation’s livestock (家畜).
Many Americans are likely to be against the idea of serving clones’ milk to their children or putting meat from the offspring of clones into the kitchens. When they were asked earlier this year in a survey by the International Food Information Council whether they would willingly buy meat, milk and eggs that come from clones if the FDA declared them to be safe, 63 percent of consumers said no.
Yet scientific evidence suggests there is little cause for alarm, at least on food-safety grounds. Studies have shown that meat and milk from clones are not different from that from normal animals, although work is not complete and researchers say that clones do suffer slight genetic abnormalities (反常).
While milk from clones might reach the shelves, clones themselves are not likely to be eaten, since they cost thousands of dollars to produce. They’d be used as breeding stock, so the real question is whether their produced offspring would be safe.
The FDA has been promising a policy for three years, but hasn’t produced a final view, and some biotechnology companies involved in cloning have run out of cash while waiting. Livestock producers have called the FDA the “Foot Dragging Administration”.
68.What is the opinion of most Americans on serving cloned milk to their children?
A.They expect to serve clone milk to their children.
B.They have already fed their children with cloned milk.
C.They believe using the cloned milk is safe enough.
D.They won’t accept cloned milk.
69.What does the underlined sentence mean in the passage?
A.The clones are very rare and cost so much to produce, so they will never be used as food.
B.Researchers spent too much money to produce the clones; it’s not worth eating them.
C.The clones cost so much to produce, so they will not be used as food.
D.The FDA will make a decision that the clones are too expensive to eat as food.
70.Why has the FDA been called “Foot Dragging Administration”?
A.Because the FDA hasn’t made final policy in the limited time.
B.Because the FDA have used up their money to make cloned food.
C.Because the FDA doesn’t know whether the cloned meat is safe to eat or not.
D.Because the livestock producers like to play jokes.
71.What is the best title for this passage?
A.The offspring of cloned animals.
B.Clone-generated meat and milk may be accepted.
C.Cloned animal products are dangerous.
D.The new plan on cloned animal products.
E.
After visiting a Harlingen tower block, the Metropolitan Police commissioner Ian Blair claimed that people now feel as safe as they did 25 years ago.
Do you agree with Sir Ian’s rosy view of society?
Do you feel safe enough to leave your doors unlocked where you live?
(Posted by David Llewellyn on August 21,2006 12:17 P.M.)
I lived in Devon for three years, and can honestly say that in the village where I lived it was safe to leave the front door unlocked. But a London district? What planet is Ian Blair on? What decade is he in?
I’m not one of these people who think that Britain is slipping into a deep hole, but I am realistic enough to understand that wherever you find a large population you will find crime.
The idea that we can measure society’s downfall by how safe it is to leave the door unlocked is misleading, anyhow. It’s a little like the recent announcement that street crime has increased in recent years. Yes, it has, but the majority of people now walk around with half a branch of Dixon’s in their pockets-mobile phones, i-Pods. Of course, street crime is going to increase.
Funnily enough, there was hardly any car theft in the 19th century!!!
The same goes for houses. A hundred years ago your house may have contained a little jewelry, some furniture, and some small cash in a biscuit tin. Now even working class households are equipped with computers, DVD players, wide-screen televisions-all of which can be carried out in a matter of minutes.
I’m not speaking for the scum(渣滓)who choose to break into people’s houses and rob them of their hard-earned belongings, but it does put things into context.
Yes, we have to lock our front doors, and yes, it is a shame that we can’t trust everyone, but if we’re honest with ourselves, those of us living in cities never could trust absolutely everyone.
72.There was hardly any car theft in the 19th century because_______.
A.there were hardly any thieves in the 19th century
B.there were hardly any cars in the 19th century
C.street crime was rarely seen in the 19th century
D.proper security measures were taken in the 19th century
73.What is David Llewellyn’s opinion about the topic?
A.Lock the back door. B.Never trust everyone.
C.Leave the door unlocked. D.Be realistic.
74.The underlined word “it” refers to_________.
A.street crime B.the recent announcement
C.leaving the door unlocked D.society’s downfall
75.According to David Llewellyn, _________.
A.to lock the door or not is related to the times and places
B.to lock the door or not is a measure to the level of safety of the society
C.to leave the door unlocked will lead you nowhere
D.to lock the door means trusting nobody

I once met a middle-aged stranger who said his money had been stolen at the railway station, so he had no money to go home. He begged for help from passers-by, but they all pretended not to have heard what he was saying and went by quickly. Then he stopped me and wanted me to give him the help. At first I could not accept that because I didn’t think he was telling the truth. But when I saw tears in his eyes, I began to believe that he might be in the real trouble, so, just immediately I gave him all the money I had. When he took the money, his face turned red. Before he left, he expressed his great thanks and also said he would give back my money when he reached home.
When I came back to school and told my classmates about my story, they held different opinions. Some of them thought that I did a good deed to have given a hand to the person in trouble, while others said that I was cheated. Some even laughed at me and called me a fool who could not judge things in the right way. Now, I am really confused!

第二节:书面表达
In this passage, the writer mainly tells us his experience of giving help to a stranger, which made him very confused because his classmates held different points of view about his deed.
One evening, father was driving me home when a stranger stopped us and said he needed a ride badly. But father did as asked. I felt a little worried thinking of our safety. But seven days later, we were very surprised to receive a letter from him, which read: “Thank you so much for helping me so that I was able to make it to my dying wife’s bedside just before she passed away. God bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving others. Sincerely yours, Tom.”
Nobody can tell when he is in trouble. If so, he, including a stranger needs love and help. If everybody just looks on, what will our world be? But it is not unusual that quite a few strangers cheat people out of their kindness, so, be careful when giving help!
