When Nancy Lublin received $5,000 from her grandfather in 1996, she never once considered taking a vacation or paying off student loans(贷款). Instead, the 24-year-old New York University law student began thinking about helping low-income women get better jobs. “If a woman goes for a job interview poorly dressed, she won’t get the job,” Lublin says. “But without a job, she can’t afford suitable clothes.”
So, with the money Lublin founded “Dress for Success” and began collecting women’s clothes which were still in good condition but which their owners no longer needed. “So many women have clothes lying around that they will never wear again,” One of Lublin’s assistants says. “Nancy’s idea is so simple and yet so important to women.”
Many women come to Lublin’s office before going to a job interview. Here, they receive a suit, shoes and any other things they need. Since it was set up, more than 1,000 women have turned to “Dress for Success” for help. Many of them have won jobs. Some have found jobs after being out of work for many years. OBERLIN, Kansas(AP) --- A postcard featuring a color drawing of Santa Claus and a young girl was mailed in 1914, but its journey was much slower than Christmas. It has just arrived in Northwest Kansa recently.
The Christmas card was dated December 23, 1914, and mailed to Ethel Martin of Oberlin, apparently from her cousins in Alma, Nebraska.
“It’s a mystery where it spent most of the last century,” Oberlin Postmaster Steve Schultz said.
“It’s surprising that it never got thrown away,” he said, “How someone has found it, I don’t know.”
Ethel Martin has passed away, but Schultz said the post office wanted to get the card to a relative That’s how the 93-year-old relic ended up with Bernice Martin, Ethel’s sister-in-law. She said she believed the card had been found somewhere in Illinois.
“That’s all we know,” she said, “But it is kind of curious. We’d like to know how it got down there.”
“The card was placed inside another envelope with modern postage for the trip to Oberlin---the one cent postage of the early 20th century wouldn’t have covered it.” Martin said.
“We don’t know much about it,” she said. “But wherever they kept it, it was in perfect shape.”
60. Where does Bernice Martin live?

It’s not the flashiest car in the world. Not even close. But the 1971 Volkswagan named Helios can do something most cars can’t: run on solar energy––energy from the sun’s light and heat!
Joshua Bechtold, 14, and the other students at the Riverside School in Lyndonville, Vermont, worked many months to get Helios ready for the 1999 American Tour de Sol (“Sol” is the Latin work for “sun”). They named their car after Helios, the sun god in Greek mythology(神话).
The 4-year-old Tour de Sol encourages the use of “green”, or environmentally friendly, cars to help reduce pollution and save energy. It is not a race. Cars are judged on fuel efficiency (耗油量) rather than speed. In the week-long event, 44 cars took the 350-mile tour from Waterbury, Connecticut, to Lake George, New York. Of the 23 student cars, Helios was the only one built by middle school students.
A teacher drove Helios, but the children talked with people whatever they stopped along the road. “That was my favorite part,” says Anna Browne, 15. “We explained how the car runs.”
Due in part to old, inefficient batteries(电池), Helios finished fourth–– out of four––in its kind, the sun-powered class. “We were there for the fun of it,” Anna says, “We are proud of Helios,” says Ariel Cleicher, 14, “It’s a car that’s good for the environment.”
64.What is special about the car Helios in the text?
A. It was built by middle school students B. It has an attractive design
C. It was made in 1971 D. It won the fourth prize
65.How many sun-powered cars took in the race?
A. 1 B. 4 C. 23 D. 44
66.The students felt proud of Helios because _____.
A. it could run as far as 350 miles B. it was favored by many children
C. it had high-quality batteries D. it was driven by clean energy
D
A new report shows that the US is on track to breeze past Germany within two years as the world leader in turning the wind into electricity. Globally, wind power capacity increased 27 percent in 2007 to 94,100 megawatts, according to the report from an Institute in Washington D.C.
The US increased 5,244 megawatts, amounting to 16,818 megawatts--- enough to power 4.5 million US homes. An the potential in the US is far greater, according to Janet Sawin., director of the Worldwatch Institute’s Energy and Climate Change Program and author of the new report. “Wind resources in just three US states could, theoretically and economically, researchers believe wind could account for 20 percent of US electricity by 2030.
Earlier this month, Governor Martin O’ Malley of Maryland banned commercial wind turbines from state-owned land out of concern they would spoil the landscapes. A proposed large-scale wind farm off the coast of Massachusetts has been put forward for years. Some environmental groups are concerned that wind farms put birds and bats at risk. Despite the opposition, however, the US is likely to have more wind turbines than anywhere else in the world.
Germany currently leads the world in installed capacity—22,247 megawatts, or about 24 percent of global capacity—but added just 1,667 megawatts in 2007, according to the new report. Rising turbine prices and a smaller supply of windy sites contributed to the country’s slowdown. However, wind still accounts for 7 percent of Germany’s energy generation.
“If the US votes to extend tax credits for the renewable energy, the country will likely pass Germany in installed capacity within two years,” Sawin said.
Europe as a whole accounts for 60 percent of global installed capacity. Spain led the continent in new installations, now with a total of 15,145 megawatts installed.
China added 3,449 megawatts of capacity in 2007 for an estimated 6,050 total megawatts.
Energy analysts said the growth is steady, but wind still makes up only about one percent of the global mix. Other renewable energy sources like solar and geothermal make up even less.” But it such rapid growth rates continue, which is likely, their contributions to the global energy mix will soon be significant,” Sawin said.
67. The best title of the text would be _____.
A. General Development of Wind Power B. The US Leads World in Wind Power Growth
C. Renewable Energy Sources Are Developed D. A Recent Research Conducted by Janet Sawin
68. According to the text, which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. Wind power accounts for only 20% of electricity in the USA.
B. Americans produced 94,100 megawatts of wind power in 2007
C. Wind resources are believed to have a lot of potential in the USA
D. The current wind energy meets the need of three states of the USA
69. Commercial wind turbines were banned in Maryland _____.
A. to turn to solar energy B. to protect birds and bats
C. to make full use of water D. to protect the landscape
70. Why has wind power capacity declined in Germany?
A. Because the costs are on the increase B. Because there is strong opposition
C. Because there is no wind in summer D. Because other forms of energy are cheap
