A “blogger” is a person who writes on an Internet computer Web site called a “blog”. The word “blog” is a short way of saying web log, or personal Web site. Anyone can start a blog , and they can write about anything they like.
There are millions of blogs on the Internet today. They provide news, information and ideas to many people who read them. They contain links to other Web sites. And they provide a place for people to write their ideas and react to the ideas of others.
A research company called Perseus has studied more than 3,000 Web logs. It says that blogs are most popular with teenage girls. They use them to let their friends know what is happening in their lives. The study also says that more than 100,000 bloggers stopped taking part in the activity after a year.
However, some people develop serious blogs to present political and other ideas. For example, the Republican and Democratic parties in the southern state of Kentucky recently started their own blogs. And American companies are beginning to use blogs to advertise their products.
At the same time, some long-standing blogs have ended. Last week, blogging leader Dave Winer closed his free blog service, weblogs.com. He says the site became too costly to continue. He started the blog four years ago, and thousands of people had written on it.
One blog that is still going strong is called Rebecca’s Pocket. It involves much useful information for readers. Rebecca Blood created the Web site in 1999. She wrote about the history of blogs on the site. That article led to a book called “The Weblog Handbook”. It has been translated into four languages so far.
Ms Blood says Rebecca’s Pocket gets about 30,000 visitors a month. She writes about anything and everything----politics, culture and movies. She recently provided medical advice. And she wrote about how to prevent people from stealing money from online bank accounts.

Have you ever heard the old saying ,"Never judge a book by its cover" ?This is a good rule to follow when trying to judge the intelligence (智力 ) of others .Some people have minds that shine only in certain situations .A young people with an unusual gift in writing may find himself speechless in the presence of a pretty girl when he speaks .He may not be able to find the right words . But don't make mistake of thinking him stupid , with a pen and a paper, he can express himself better than anybody .

His first successful fight was for the equal rights of black people in South Africa. Then, as the first black president, he fought to unite the country and organize the government. Now Nelson Mandela has set his sights on a new enemy, AIDS.
On March 19 the 82-year-old, former president, hosted his second AIDS-awareness concert. He warned that 25 million people in Africa were already infected with the fatal disease.

“Although I did not enjoy the violence of boxing, I was interested in how one moved one’s body to protect oneself, how one used a strategy both to attack and retreat”, he wrote in his autobiography.

The project was announced in 1999 and construction began in 2003. Disney's other parks are Tokyo, Paris and the U.S. states of California and Florida. New York University has hundreds of young women in its freshman class this spring. But two stand out: The American TV stars-the Olsen twins.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will celebrate their 19th birthday next month. They’ve been famous since they were nine months old, and now have their own line of films, books, dolls and clothing. Although the Olsens are in college full time, they aren’t absent owners of a business. They take care of their business through telephone conferences, examine product designs through email, and have face-to-face meetings with the managers.
Last fall, Mary-Kate and Ashley entered fortune magazine’s list of the richest people below the age of 40’It said their wealth was US$137million each. Hollywood Reporter magazine named them as two of the 100 most powerful women in Hollywood.
The twins were born in California in1986.Their careers began when their parents took them to an audition (试镜)for a TV show “Full House”. They were just nine months old. The producers were looking for twin girls to share the role of a baby. Tons of babies auditioned, but the Olsen twins were the only ones who didn’t cry — they got the job.
The show lasted until 1994 so the twins almost got to grow up in front of the camera They learned how to walk and ride a bike before the camera.
The Olsens have gone much further than acting since 1993 when their company Dualstar was founded in Los Angeles. Their lawyer Robert Thorne helped them manage it.
Thorne was thinking about an audience that, until then, had been forgotten by Hollywood: It was the 8-to-12-year-olds. These were too old for cartoons, but too young for teenage films.
Thorne did something brave. He made the twins have a final say on the product designs.
“They and I hire directors, hire writers and check everything they’re doing, ”says Thorne. “We do every-thing.”
The Olsens have always tried to sell a clean image. For that reason, people won’t see them at Hollywood parties.
72. The Olsens twins are now
A. famous writers B. famous pop stars
C. college students D. film directors
